Its firmly grounded in the soulful singer/songwriter style that he etched out on Wild Wood, but there are several subtle differences that give it its own character. But of course as soon as it creeps into abuse it shuts down all those creative channels and you just become a junkie. Paul Weller doesnt try anything explicitly new on his sixth solo album, Illumination, or at least it seems that way at first. Certain drugs, especially when you first start taking them, open up the world in a way you've never thought about before. Sometimes in a good way, but rarely I'd say. Arguably the absolute best live album of Pauls entire career, Live Wood was released 25 years ago this week No Jam. You've got a slight drone going on with the guitars. Obviously it's in 'Love You To', the George track, but also the way the guitars are played. The sound was so different that you knew there was something else going on, that something was changing culturally and musically for people, which of course it did the following year. And all the tape sounds that are coming in and out. While at Independiente Paul Weller invited Pete to work as Executive Producer on his live solo acoustic album Days Of Speed. That thing with the bass and drums where it's just one groove, like a loop. It was named after the small Amsterdam studio in which it was recorded. It comprises covers of songs by a variety of artists, and showcases Wellers myriad musical influences. That song always sounds contemporary to me. Studio 150 is the seventh album by British artist Paul Weller. They started that in early 1966 or whatever. ![]() It's interesting that 'Tomorrow Never Knows', which still sounds like something that's coming from the future, was the first song that they started work on. I think Revolver, because it pointed the way forward.
